EDGAR Next is live. What's next?

Overview

Now that the EDGAR Next enrollment compliance date has passed, what's next? Learn more about final compliance steps and additional enrollment guidance. For SEC filers who have not yet enrolled, note that the grace period for enrollment ends Dec. 19, 2025.

EDGAR Next is now live! Required compliance began on Sept. 15, 2025.

EDGAR Next has been one of the most significant SEC changes in many years. As I discussed in my previous blog, the SEC designed the new system to improve filer management, security and to ensure filing authorization. In the final rule, the SEC estimated over 208,000 filers need to comply. Now, the majority of filers have successfully enrolled and are actively filing using the new protocols.

Expedited enrollment available through Dec. 19, 2025

If a filer has not enrolled in EDGAR Next yet, there is still time. The SEC provided a grace period for filers to enroll from Sept. 15 through Dec. 19, 2025. The streamlined enrollment process requires a valid CIK, CCC and passphrase. If a filer does not have their passphrase or it is invalid, then it can be reset following these steps. Then filers can follow our instructions to complete their enrollment.

Remember: Because we are now in the “comply” phase of EDGAR Next, filers who have not yet enrolled cannot file on the EDGAR system until they are enrolled.

If filers are unable to obtain the filing codes that they need to enroll or filers wait until after Dec. 19, 2025, then they must submit a Form ID for lost access to the SEC to regain access to their EDGAR account. While enrolling in EDGAR Next during the grace period allows a filer to begin filing immediately, a Form ID must be reviewed by the SEC – a process which can take several days. During the review process, the filer will be unable to file. Additionally, if the SEC rejects the Form ID, it will need to be fixed and resubmitted, further delaying the ability to file.

Annual confirmation

The final step in complying with the EDGAR Next final rule is for an account administrator of each enrolled filer (CIK) to annually confirm their EDGAR account information, including delegation statuses. The SEC will send email reminders to the primary account administrator prior to the annual confirmation date. The SEC provides filers a three-month grace period to perform confirmation. See our step-by step annual confirmation instructions.
